The event is celebrated on August 24 each year
There's a huge Ukrainian community based in Merseyside following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which started on February 24. Since the start of the invasion hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians have left their country and settled elsewhere.On Thursday evening the celebration was marked with a number of speeches and readings in both English and Ukrainian. A number of traditional Ukrainian dancers also performed for crowds who were wearing yellow and blue flags and clothing.
