Latest statistics from Public Health Scotland show LESS people in treatment than 2021, overdoses increasing and deaths showing little sign of coming down.
The latest intelligence report by the Scottish Government report shows that 100 Scots are still dying every month, meaning recent investment is not getting quick results.
The latest setback for our nation - the worst in Europe by miles for overdose deaths - shows that signs of encouragement from 12 months ago were a false dawn, with several indicators indicating that things are as bad as ever. “It has been years since the Scottish Government declared a public health emergency - but progress has been far too slow and far too many lives are still being lost to drugs.
“May’s spike in the number of suspected drug deaths comes against a backdrop of Scotland already having - by a huge distance - the worst narcotics fatality rate in Europe.Scottish Lib Dem leader Alex Cole-Hamilton claimed the Government was “still woefully behind the curve” on drug deaths.“If the Scottish Government is at last serious about reform in this area, this will take detailed work both here in Scotland and in partnership with colleagues across the UK and beyond.
Data from Police Scotland, which informed the report, showed the most detected drug category was depressants , followed by opioids . The most detected individually-detected drug was cocaine , followed by bromazolam and etizolam .
