His aggressor had told him to turn his music down
A 13-year-old boy laughed to give the impression he was not scared when a knife was held towards his chest. The incident happened in Mansfield when the victim was in a school's computer area and his aggressor had told him to turn his music down.
Wiliiam Arnold approached and turned off the music. But then he said the boy owed money to someone and pulled out a lock knife, Nottingham Crown Court was told. The young boy reacted by laughing, said prosecutor Dawn Pritchard on Thursday . "He thought that might give the impression he was not scared and said of the knife, 'what are you going to do with that?'"The minute-long incident made the child feel frightened - but he had to hide that, added Miss Pritchard.
He was scared it might happen again and in future said he was going to sit where there were CCTV cameras. Arnold was sentenced for possessing a bladed article years after the incident happened. He is now 19, of Meadow Bank, Mansfield Woodhouse, and a teenager who struggles enormously with his mental health. He can't be diagnosed with a personality disorder until he is 21 - and his is thought to be borderline.
He considered Arnold's case to be exceptional for reasons his barrister, Luc Chignell, had argued, and the judge was satisfied Arnold will never come back before a court again.
