The warmer weather could put many people at risk
A heat health alert has been issued for the East Midlands as temperatures are expected to reach into high the high 20s.On Thursday , the UK Health Security Agency and the Met Office issued the alert with the country set to be hit with ‘warmer weather’ after a stormy start to August.
The alert for the East Midlands is currently in place from 12pm, August 10, until 9am on Saturday, August 12. A yellow alert means that any impacts include the increased use of health care services by vulnerable populations and an increase in risk to health for individuals over the age of 65 or those with pre-existing health conditions, including respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.A spokesperson for the UKHSA warned of the expected impacts of the warmer weather.
For today, throughout the region, the Met Office says: “A largely dry and fine day, although starting rather cloudy across the far north of the region, and the odd heavy shower or thunderstorm may form in the northwest later. Feeling very warm, with light winds. Maximum temperature 29C.”
