British border forces intercepted 29 people attempting to cross the Channel
Boats carrying 75 migrants were cut off while trying to get to the UK from France.
Home Secretary Priti Patel has previously promised to keep desperate people from making the life-threatening journey. But more than 21,000 migrants have crossed the Channel so far this year – more than double the number throughout the whole of 2020.Clandestine channel threat commander Dan O’Mahoney said: ‘These journeys are illegal, dangerous, unnecessary and facilitated by violent criminal gangs profiting from misery, and we have seen again this week that they can lead to tragic consequences.
