Mulled wine! Ice skating! Christmas treats!
With virtually every one of the best Christmas markets in the UK cancelled during the pandemic, 2020 was the Grinch that stolefrom us all. A whole year without enjoying the ice rink in Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland or wandering through the cobblestone streets of York means a year without the festive cheer necessary to light up Britain’s frosty winters. This year, though, Christmas markets are making a welcome return, with a few adjustments to maximise safety.
Winchester’s world-renowned market is switching its ice rink for a live stage that promises to be every bit as thrilling , while Blenheim Palace’s Christmas Market and Illuminated Trail have also returned, with a nativity story to explore inside its halls. Further north, Manchester and Belfast are putting a globalised spin on Christmas food, while, in Wales, Cardiff is leaning into native treats from local makers. Below, the best Christmas markets to visit in the UK in 2021.
