🔴 Unresolved doctors’ strikes 🔴 Waiting list backlog 🔴 Ongoing workforce issues 🔴 Incomplete hospital building works Tories fear all the above will cost Rishi Sunak the next election janemerrick23, HugoGye and RichardVaughan1:
Conservative MP Dan Poulter, a former health minister who is also an NHS doctor, warned the Prime Minister will miss his key pledge to cut waiting lists this year unless he cuts a deal on pay with the British Medical Association, which is representing junior and senior doctors.
“If the Government has any hope of reducing waiting times any time soon and fulfilling the Prime Minister’s pledge, then it needs to put ideology aside, and work constructively to recognise the legitimate pay concerns of doctors, and end this dispute by getting our doctors back to work.” Recent figures showed that only one in four of the projects has even got planning permission, and Tory MPs are worried there will be little to show for the pledge during the next election campaign.: “In my area the main thing I’ve been asked about is when we are getting a new hospital. Immigration does come up too, but not as much, and the thing about the economy is it affects everyone in very different ways.
However, ministers and Tory MPs may have not got their assessment of their biggest electoral risks completely right, according to pollsters.
