Hyndburn Borough Council leader Cllr Marlene Haworth has issued the funds to Huncoat United FC

An Accrington amateur football club has been given a small grant to support its community work thanks to its ward councillors and the political boss of the borough.

Hyndburn Borough Council leader Cllr Marlene Haworth awarded the £400 contribution to Huncoat United FC from hew ‘Leader’s Budget’ of £20,000. It followed lobbying from Huncoat ward’s councillors Danny Cassidy and Cllr Dave Parkins. It will pay for new goals for the club’s under sevens’ teamThe three politicians joined together to present the cheque for £400 to representatives from Huncoat United FC this week. Cllr Haworth said: “Ward councillors Cllr Danny Cassidy and Cllr Dave Parkins both expressed to me just how valuable the work is that Huncoat United FC do for the community.

“Their organisation offers grass roots sports for a wide variety of ages and they’re a key part of local sport and leisure. I am pleased to be able to help them with some additional funding and know they will put it to great use.” Chair of Huncoat United FC Chris Sherratt said: “This funding is really welcomed; it is going to provide brand new goals for our under sevens’ team and I would like to say thank you to all those involved.”
