CAMEROON WERE beaten 1-0 by Switzerland in their opening World Cup fixture, reports Ben Scammell....

It was a first half filled with limited chances, which allowed the Africans to grow into the game and impose themselves

They may have felt they should have been 1-0 up when Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, had broken through down the right-hand side in the 9minute with his shot from a tight angle saved by Yann Sommer but Karl Toko Ekambi failed to convert on the rebound with his effort sailing over the bar. Even though Cameroon had looked good in the first half they were always reminded of Switzerland’s danger when they had two chances from corners missed by Nico Elvedi and Akanji.

Cameroon’s presence diminished as the game continued as Switzerland almost scored an identical goal to the first.
