Tennis star Alex de Minaur was booed by an angry Laver Cup crowd at The O2 in London for making a gaffe over Roger Federer’s retirement.

Fan favourite Federer called time on his career on Friday night, as he featured in doubles alongside former foe Rafael Nadal for his final professional matchThere was a highly emotional atmosphere before, during and after the occasion as tennis fans waved goodbye to one of the game’s greatest ever players.

De Minaur dropped the first set but bounced back to beat the Great British hero 5-7 6-3 in a close contest in front of a sell-out crowd of 17,500 people. And it was during his post-match interview on the court that De Minaur made the mistake over Federer’s retirement, openly admitting he wanted him to lose.“I hope Team World can win the doubles as well”.‘I’m just glad I was able to get a win for Team World and hopefully we can get another in the doubles ,’ he said, referencing Federer’s last-ever match.
