Specialized intros new Mondo performance endurance tires and the Romin EVO Mirror goes Pro with ti-rails and a reclaimed carbon shell.
Specialized is getting ready for the heavy part of gravel season and is rolling out some gear that will make you question your setup for race day. After finding success in the classics and gravel races, the Specialized S-Works Mondo tire is hitting the shelves just in time for Unbound, BWR, and your favorite gravel race.
Plus — when it comes to race day, they don’t want to change out their well-known training tires for ones that aren’t second nature to them. Basically, a tire that will go anywhere, do anything, no “splitting the difference,” just performance and reliability… easy right? The S-Works Mondo tires have 11% less rolling resistance than the previous class-leading Specialized tire. Like most gains in tire performance, a secret compound is involved, Specialized proprietary Gription.
The formulation uses a mix of activated Silica and Specialized T2 Gripton, delivering a lively, fast tire, 17% faster than the Specialized T5 compound on in-house rolling resistance test drum tests. For corning grip, the team used the softer activated Silica T5 Gripton compound . This compound change allows the Mondo to sink into the road, providing a planted feeling for cornering speed.
The new Mondo is hookless ready, and Specliazed claims it’s strong enough for pressures on hooked rims higher than any hookless rims can reach. This is all to ensure riders have the flexibility to run the pressure they feel is right when using hooked rims.We received an early sample of the S-Works Mondo tire in the 700c x 32mm size. The only bike/wheel combination Zach had that would fit the tires was his Why PR currently fitted with Bontrager Aeolus RSL 62 wheels.

CAGECAT: The CompArative GEne Cluster Analysis Toolbox for rapid search and visualisation of homologous gene clusters - BMC BioinformaticsBackground Co-localized sets of genes that encode specialized functions are common across microbial genomes and occur in genomes of larger eukaryotes as well. Important examples include Biosynthetic Gene Clusters (BGCs) that produce specialized metabolites with medicinal, agricultural, and industrial value (e.g. antimicrobials). Comparative analysis of BGCs can aid in the discovery of novel metabolites by highlighting distribution and identifying variants in public genomes. Unfortunately, gene-cluster-level homology detection remains inaccessible, time-consuming and difficult to interpret. Results The comparative gene cluster analysis toolbox (CAGECAT) is a rapid and user-friendly platform to mitigate difficulties in comparative analysis of whole gene clusters. The software provides homology searches and downstream analyses without the need for command-line or programming expertise. By leveraging remote BLAST databases, which always provide up-to-date results, CAGECAT can yield relevant matches that aid in the comparison, taxonomic distribution, or evolution of an unknown query. The service is extensible and interoperable and implements the cblaster and clinker pipelines to perform homology search, filtering, gene neighbourhood estimation, and dynamic visualisation of resulting variant BGCs. With the visualisation module, publication-quality figures can be customized directly from a web-browser, which greatly accelerates their interpretation via informative overlays to identify conserved genes in a BGC query. Conclusion Overall, CAGECAT is an extensible software that can be interfaced via a standard web-browser for whole region homology searches and comparison on continually updated genomes from NCBI. The public web server and installable docker image are open source and freely available without registration at: https://cagecat.bioinformatics.nl .
