Now Charles has ascended the throne, the Counsellors of State are the new Queen Consort, Prince William, Prince Harry, Prince Andrew and Princess Beatrice. Counsellors of State – who comprise the monarch’s spouse and the next four people in the line of succession who are over the age of 21 – can act on behalf of the King in the event that he cannot undertake duties on a temporary basis due to illness or absence abroad.
