Brown’s novel was ghostwritten by an author whose name does not appear on the cover

It is set during World War II, tells the story of 18-year-old East End girl Nellie Morris and the 1943 Bethnal Green tube disaster. It is based on the experiences and recollections of Brown’s grandmother Ruth.
According to a blog post McLure wrote in March – herself, as far as I am aware although the idea that she didn’t is so delicious it could form the basis of a satirical thriller I might get someone to pen for me – Brown’s family provided “a lot of research” that they and Millie had already “pulled together” and Millie gave her “plenty of ideas”.
