Fernando Alonso has spoken about Mercedes’ performance this season after Lewis Hamilton joined the Aston Martin driver and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen on the podium in Melbourne.The 2023 season is the second year of the new regulations. 2022 saw Red Bull dominate both championships with Max Verstappen winning theThis year, Red Bull have continued to excel on a level above the rest of the grid. Out of the first three rounds, both Red Bull drivers have achieved a race victory.
With Red Bull and Aston Martin looking very competitive, it looked as though those two teams would be leading the season. Mercedes, however, didn’t look to have as strong a performance in the first two rounds. The Silver Arrows made comments after Bahrain about the W14 not being as good as they’d hoped. The team had even made comments about changing the concept of the design. However, after the Australian Grand Prix, Mercedes are now third in the championship and have bagged their first podium of the season.
Both George Russell and Lewis Hamilton qualified within the top three on Saturday’s Qualifying. For Russell, unfortunately the race didn’t go to plan after he was forced to retire due to a mechanical failure. But Hamilton was able to take home P2, making him the first driver outside of Red Bull and Aston Martin to stand on the podium.
