The talking points as Manchester City took on Sheffield United in the Premier League without manager Pep Guardiola.
Alvarez quietly becoming indispensable Julian Alvarez was often the first Manchester City player to be dropped last season, back-up to Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland and only getting a chance when one wasn't selected. With De Bruyne injured this season, and two experienced departures in attacking midfield, Alvarez has stepped up in the early stages of this season, starting all four competitive games so far.
Foden was aided by Kyle Walker's width and Julian Alvarez's industry against Newcastle, and those two helped make the system work in Yorkshire. Bernardo was busy as ever in the spaces between the full-back and centre-back. For Foden, though, after finding a system that suited him so well just a week ago, it felt like a step backwards to be dropped in a like-for-like change.
At Nottingham Forest last season in identical circumstances, Chris Wood levelled against the run of play and stole a point, and Bogle's strike looked to give Sheffield United the same. The difference was that City had time to get a winner and Rodri obliged with a rocket into the top corner. City deserve credit for battling through a tricky game against stubborn opposition.
Pep Guardiola pointed to this game as one where Gvardiol would have had a week of training and would be able to be thrown in - but injuries have meant he has had to be played for the last three games. As he adapts to his new system, it seems that he is not yet trusted in the centre or hasn't fully shown he can play that complex role with the ever-fluid back line.
