The RSPCA, Blue Cross and Carla Lane in Need are among those still rehoming the dogs even though they will become illegal to own in a matter of months
Ministers have warned that owners could face having to apply for an exemption certificate if the law change comes into effect, and that they would be committing a criminal offence if they did not identify themselves before any ban comes in.with rescue centres or asked for vets to put them to sleep. And amid the confusion over the breed’s future legal status, charities including the RSPCA, Battersea, Blue Cross and Hope Rescue are still offering to rehome XL Bullies.
“We are steadfastly opposed to breed specific legislation and this forthcoming ban, but owners and rescue centres need clarity so we are calling on the UK Government to release this information urgently.” Other animal rescue charities are not acknowledging the potential legal issues surrounding XL Bullys in their online appeals.
“He’s been in his home a few months now, a wonderful home that took a leap of faith and gave a deserving bully a home.”
