The facility will also serve as a storage hub for stockpiling salt ahead of potentially treacherous winter months.
Peel Ports Clydeport has begun construction of the shed at the George V dock after securing a multi-million-pound joint investment with the Irish Salt Mining Company, also known as Salt Sales Co.
PPC staff will unload the salt from the ships arriving at the port and either load lorries to deliver to customers or add the salt to the stockpile shed.
