Man Utd forward Antony has endured a difficult start to the season and his time at Old Trafford on the whole has been underwhelming.
Manchester United showed huge faith in their newly-appointed manager when they backed him in an £86 million move for the Ajax winger a year ago, which even then felt like a huge risk for a player who didn't exactly blow away the competition in a weaker league.
The 23-year-old is still incredibly raw and unrefined, but it is obvious he has an abundance of natural talent. The key to ever fulfilling his potential will be the hard work and application necessary to unlock it. Antony can't help the price-tag attached to him and does deserve a bit of slack in that regard. Though, even if he had cost a third of the fee, his performances ultimately haven't been good enough yet.
There is still hope for improvement, though. Antony should relish the opportunity to prove his doubters wrong and his response to the ongoing criticism could prove whether or not he is really cut out for a starring role at an elite level. After the match, Gary Neville claimed the winger could still become 'one hell of a player' for the club as long as he could find consistency and improve his decision-making in the final third.
