Succession's Sarah Snook: 'As a woman, you're cruel about yourself'
She has captivated us all with her portrayal of straight-talking Siobhan ‘Shiv’ Roy, the power-hungry media heiress in smash-hit TV drama Succession.
“I feel great,” said a beaming Sarah, later revealing that she and her Peter Rabbit actor husband Dave Lawson, 44, have decided not to find out the gender of their baby before its expected arrival in mid-May. On Halloween 2020, Sarah popped the question, and they married in the backyard of her Brooklyn home just three months later.In Succession, Shiv plots and schemes her way through toxic family feuds with her father Logan and on-screen brothers Connor , Kendall and Roman .
Sarah has often talked about the pressures put on women in the public eye to look or act a certain way and, alongside friend Kate Winslet, with whom she co-starred in The Dressmaker and Steve Jobs, has been outspoken about attitudes to actresses’ shape on screen. Having filmed in the searing Italian heat for last season’s finale, she recalls, “That was a 100°F [37°C] day with full overhead sun. I was in high heels, wearing Spanx and a tight dress. I had to go and sit in a cold, dark room with a cold compress on my face.”As she teams up for the first time with her siblings to attempt to wrest control of media conglomerate Waystar Royco from their father, Sarah reveals their jockeying for power will “set up some tricky situations”.
Working with British actor Matthew, 48, has been a joy for Sarah, who says they both wrangle with their American accents together.
