“I like to get up, take a shower, take my dog for a walk, make a cup of coffee... Journal a bit.”

, Austin Butler has cemented his place as one of Hollywood’s brightest stars. Despite his busy schedule, Butler has carved out time for a new role as YSL Beauty’s new global ambassador, timed to coincide with the launch of the label’s latest masculine eau de parfum, Myslf. Butler sat down within New York City to chat about his fragrance preferences, wellness rituals and the beauty tips he’s learned on set.Recently I’ve been going in the sauna and cold plunge a lot – which I do love.

I prefer a slow wake up. I’ve gone through periods of time where the first thing that I do is work out or something like that; lately I like to get up, take a shower, take my dog for a walk, make a cup of coffee you know? Journal a bit – kind of just start the day getting my mind centred. On his fragrance approach

My approach is that I wear fragrance depending on how I want to feel, kind of how I get dressed. It makes you feel a certain way so that applies to my life. I have some days where I wear fragrance and some days that I don’t. The first time I ever used fragrance in a role was when I was doingwith Denzel Washington here on Broadway.

Differential effects of SARS-CoV-2 variants on central nervous system cells and blood–brain barrier functions - Journal of NeuroinflammationDifferential effects of SARS-CoV-2 variants on central nervous system cells and blood–brain barrier functions - Journal of NeuroinflammationBackground Although mainly causing a respiratory syndrome, numerous neurological symptoms have been identified following of SARS-CoV-2 infection. However, how the virus affects the brain and how the mutations carried by the different variants modulate those neurological symptoms remain unclear. Methods We used primary human pericytes, foetal astrocytes, endothelial cells and a microglial cell line to investigate the effect of several SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern or interest on their functional activities. Cells and a 3D blood–brain barrier model were infected with the wild-type form of SARS-CoV-2, Alpha, Beta, Delta, Eta, or Omicron (BA.1) variants at various MOI. Cells and supernatant were used to evaluate cell susceptibility to the virus using a microscopic assay as well as effects of infection on (i) cell metabolic activity using a colorimetric MTS assay; (ii) viral cytopathogenicity using the xCELLigence system; (iii) extracellular glutamate concentration by fluorometric assay; and (iv) modulation of blood–brain barrier permeability. Results We demonstrate that productive infection of brain cells is SARS-CoV-2 variant dependent and that all the variants induce stress to CNS cells. The wild-type virus was cytopathic to all cell types except astrocytes, whilst Alpha and Beta variants were only cytopathic for pericytes, and the Omicron variant cytopathic for endothelial cells and pericytes. Lastly wild-type virus increases blood–brain barrier permeability and all variants, except Beta, modulate extracellular glutamate concentration, which can lead to excitotoxicity or altered neurotransmission. Conclusions These results suggest that SARS-CoV-2 is neurotropic, with deleterious consequences for the blood–brain barrier integrity and central nervous system cells, which could underlie neurological disorders following SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Rising trends in the burden of migraine and tension-type headache among adolescents and young adults globally, 1990 to 2019 - The Journal of Headache and PainRising trends in the burden of migraine and tension-type headache among adolescents and young adults globally, 1990 to 2019 - The Journal of Headache and PainBackground Headache disorders are major contributors to disability in adolescents and young adults worldwide. We aimed to analyze global trends in the burden of migraine and tension-type headache in 10 to 24-year-olds from 1990 to 2019. Methods Data were obtained from the Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD) 2019 to examine trends in incidence, prevalence, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) for migraine and tension-type headache in adolescents and young adults by location, age, sex and sociodemographic index (SDI). Joinpoint regression analyzed trends and identified years of significant change. Results Globally, migraine and tension-type headache incidence, prevalence, and DALYs increased from 1990 to 2019, though with some fluctuations. The highest growth in migraine incidence occurred in males and individuals aged 10-14, while for tension-type headache incidence, it was observed in males and individuals aged 20-24. Prevalence and DALYs were highest for both disorders in females and those aged 20–24 years. Incidence increased fastest in East Asia for migraine and tension-type headache. For migraine, Tropical Latin America had the fastest increase in prevalence and DALYs. East Asia had the fastest increase in prevalence of tension-type headache, while North Africa and the Middle East had the highest growth in DALYs. Some high-income countries such as Singapore, Norway, and Iran (Islamic Republic of) demonstrated fast increases, while a few countries including Qatar, Thailand and Ethiopia decreased. Conclusions The incidence, prevalence and disability from migraine and tension-type headache are rising in adolescents and young adults, especially in males, older youth and middle SDI populations. The increasing trends highlight the need for targeted interventions focused on prevention and control in priority populations. Continued monitoring of trends can help identify strategies to promote headache health and reduce the life-course impacts of headache disorders
