As many as 24,000 construction jobs will immediately be lost by scrapping HS2 phase 2a of rail link

While the Government has said it will spend £12bn on delivering the new NPR link between Manchester and Liverpool, it remains unclear whether this will be based on the existing HS2 plans. Shadow Transport Secretary Louise Haigh said the “chaos and incompetence” surrounding the Government’s decision to scrap HS2 was having a “catastrophic impact on our economy”.
