A scaled down celebration will take place on Sunday, November 19.
The annual festive favourite - which sees families flock to count down the turning on of the town’s twinkling lights, marking the run up to Christmas - has been curtailed as South Ayrshire Council confirm there won’t be the usual fanfare and official ceremony on the High Street.
The ‘Festive Family Fun’ event will see a host of free activities and attractions spread across three town centre locations – the Cutty Sark Centre, The Grain Exchange and Ayr Town Hall - from 12noon until 5pm. "A switch on event would have required the High Street to close for long periods to set-up and run the event.
The Cutty Sark Centre will play host to a range of interactive activities including a Kid’s Zone, portrait drawings, balloon modelling, face painting and a Christmas Wishing Tree.
