Patrols along the banks of local rivers have been ongoing in a bid to crackdown on illegal fishing practices across Stirling area.
The most recent patrol by the Forth District Salmon Fishery Board took place on Tuesday with the group’s bailiffs visiting several sites around the Stirling, Doune and Callander area.
Stirling Council Forth beat was also patrolled a number of times throughout the day and evening with three anglers being approached. All three had permits and continued having a legal cast. According to Forth DSFB, the most common offence they are required to deal with is fishing without written permission. In Scotland, you need to have a permit to fish for salmon and sea trout and brown trout otherwise it would be breaking the law.
The group added that there is currently a wild salmon crisis – with stock numbers declining sharply. The Scottish Government have also declared a wild salmon crisis and have the wild salmon strategy to try and support the recovery of Scotland’s iconic wild salmon populations.
