The BBC is set to bring back the iconic kids adventure TV show The Famous Five, created by Enid Blyton, after more than three decades off screen and fans are over the moon
The BBC are set to adapt Enid Blyton's legendary fictional characters The Famous Five for the first time after more than three decades off screen, as it's deemed a "timeless" classic. The Famous Five is a series of novels that follows the adventures of five main characters, Julian, Dick, Anne, George and their dog Timmy, and it first appeared on screen in 1978 for one year, before being axed.
Nicolas said: "All my life I've fought vigorously to remain a child with a lust for adventure. By reimagining The Famous Five, I am preserving that notion by bringing these iconic stories to life for a progressive new audience, instilling the undefinable allure and enchantment of childhood for current and future generations to come."
Explaining how the adaptation is set to differ from the original, Will Gould of Moonage Pictures stated: "Moonage Pictures was created to provide the right creative environment to explore ideas without limitation and this provides us with exactly that opportunity... This Famous Five will be a modern, timely and irreverent action series." However, this comes after Enid Blyton's books were heavily criticised for being racist and xenophobic.
