The BBC has issued an apology after a slip-up on BBC Breakfast by presenter Sally Nugent. During a segment on the Dambusters Raid, the presenter called the British World War Two operation 'infamous'.
The objective was to cripple German industrial production by targeting dams in the Ruhr Valley. The raids were led by Wing Commander Guy Gibson, commanding the newly formed 617 Squadron, specially equipped with modified Lancaster bombers designed to carry a unique weapon known as the "Bouncing Bomb" - which would skip along the water's surface and then detonate underwater near the dam, causing a shockwave that would breach the dam's walls.
The BBC's Editorial Complaints Unit has since highlighted a correction on the BBC Complaints website. "It was incumbent on BBC News to publicly acknowledge the error, which they did by posting the following correction on the BBC Complaints website:
