Tragedy of 'beautiful' and 'infectious' mum, 38, who took her life after argument with estranged husband
Lauren Murray, 38, was found unresponsive at her home in Fairway Road, Oldham, on June 6 2020, a three-day inquest at Rochdale Coroner’s Court heard. Lauren had been in contact with husband Anthony Murray, who she was separated from but had recently rekindled with, in the early hours of that morning and the previous night.
The coroner, Catherine McKenna told the court that Mr Murray had made the decision not to send any legal representation to the hearing and that he had not applied for any adjournments. She said: "He confirmed he didn't have any questions to put to Lauren's family and the court advised him of the various options - that he may wish to apply for an adjournment or that he could send representation to the inquest.
Detective Inspector Thomas Howard also told the court that Mr Murray was charged with controlling and coercive behaviour, in relation to Lauren, in 2016 but the case was dropped when she failed to support the prosecution. Following concerns from the social services about Lauren’s ability to keep her youngest child safe while in contact with Mr Murray, her parents were granted custody by a court in 2017, while the father kept custody of the other two children.
Throughout 2019, Lauren continued to see Ms Considine and also started seeing cognitive behavioural therapist Rachel Knight, who told the hearing that Lauren presented with a “history of low mood and domestic violence”. Ms Knight said that Lauren told her of suicidal thoughts but that she never had any active plans to end her life, listing her children as protective factors.
However, during an appointment with Ms Considine in February 2020, Lauren disclosed that she recently spent the night with Mr Murray and had been speaking to him on WhatsApp. DI Howard also told the court that multiple cash deposits were made by Mr Murray to Lauren’s bank account throughout January and February, after making none since July 2019.
On June 1, Lauren spent time with Mr Murray and his grandson in Manchester city centre. During a police interview, Mr Murray said that this visit took place on June 4 and that she stayed at his Church Street apartment on the same day. However, Mrs Royales said that Lauren had been at home with her father Frank that day, helping her to decorate.
