'Whilst there are wonderful transformations happening across Belfast, we can’t ignore that antisocial behaviour such as littering, graffiti, drug misuse and aggressive begging can deter tourists and investors alike'
In today's world, a city's reputation is its greatest asset, but also its most fragile attribute. Unfortunate events in Dublin have resulted in a sharp decline in how safe people perceive the city to be. Similarly, noise pollution and instances of hate speech cast a shadow over Belfast's Pride Festival. It’s critical we appreciate how important our reputation is and collaborate to proactively put in place appropriate measures to safeguard Belfast’s image.
Every city has a unique sense of place - a blend of culture, history and atmosphere that sets it apart from others. It's our responsibility to champion our city’s uniqueness and vibrancy and ensure that all of us involved in city matters continue to prioritise the clean and safe agenda - the cornerstones of a thriving reputation.
Effective placemaking requires a collaborative approach. Our partnerships with Belfast City Council, the Department for Communities, and the Department for Infrastructure in particular, have already led to significant positive changes across the district. Blackstaff Square is an example of where our investment and vision are accelerating the transformation of a public spaces.
