So sad - he went to sleep and just didn't wake up
Sheila Cunningham had left her son Brett asleep on the settee and went to her bed at around 11.30pm on the night of January 6 of this year. When she got up the following morning she realised Brett wasn't in his bed and when she went downstairs she initially thought he was still asleep in the chair. He had in fact died during the night.
"It was about 11.30pm when I went to bed, Brett was fast asleep in the chair, which is what he would do many a time but wake up in the night and go to bed," Mrs Cunningham told the coroner. "When I got up in the morning I walked past his room and saw he wasn't there.In Lancashire post mortems are usually non-invasive and typically a CT scan will suffice. However, in Brett's case, a full post mortem was carried out after concerns were raised about the medication he was on.
