There will be up to ten shooting stars an hour
Tonight, you may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a meteor shower as the Earth makes its way through a cloud of cometary dust. The Draconid meteor shower, also known as Giacobinids, is set to grace the skies over the weekend, peaking on Sunday evening after nightfall.
The streaks of light in the sky are caused by particles as small as a grain of sand, with the flying debris visible after nightfall, unlike other meteor showers best seen in the early hours of the morning.Dr Minjae Kim, a research fellow from the Department of Physics at the University of Warwick, said: “The Draconid meteor shower will be active from October 6 to 10, with its peak occurring around October 8 and 9.
Dr Kim added: “To fully appreciate this celestial event, minimal light pollution is ideal. Find a location with an unobstructed horizon that offers a clear view of the stars on a dark, cloud-free night."
