The proposal was to extend the hours for pubs in the city centre from midnight to 1 am to give the licensed trade a boost.
Staffing, other costs and transport were all noted as reasons why it would not be helpful at the moment.information from Police Scotland, data on alcohol-related deaths, views from residents and businesses and the licensed trade.
The city’s Licensing Board will take the final decision this year and if it is to be approved the change would not come into force until later in 2023 and would last for four years. A report by the Local Licensing Forum sub group, said: “The Sub-Group considered that a recent proposal to possibly extend the terminal hour for public houses within the city centre to 1am should not be supported.
“The Sub-Group considered that such a proposal would not necessarily have the benefit of contributing to the late-night economy as there are increasing costs and staffing issues experienced by those in the public house trade.”One of the reasons was that there is not enough or the right transport to get people home an hour later.
It added: “The Sub-Group noted that the existing transport provision and times of services within the city centre would not support an extension of terminal hours to for city centre public houses to 1.00 am.”
