Prof David Mba says he wants to help students from low-income and those from ethnic minorities.
The first black vice-chancellor at Birmingham City University said he wanted to use his platform to improve opportunities for others.He said he wanted to help students from "the most deprived areas of the West Midlands" find employment and act as a role model for students belonging to ethnic minorities.He said he was only the second black university vice-chancellor in the UK.
Previously, he served as deputy vice-chancellor at the University of the Arts London and started his new role on 2 October.
