Black man stripped-searched and put in headlock claims ordeal was racist
A BLACK man who was strip-searched and placed in a headlock for 90 seconds by a white police officer has won a ten-year legal case against the Met in the latest race scandal to tarnish the force.
The incident comes as the Met remain under special measures following a series of policing errors and increasing pressure on the new Met commissioner to stamp out disproportionate stop and search and force used against black communities. Three investigations were conducted by the Met, but were decided to be inadequate before the police watchdog took over the case and concluded in a report that the restraint used against Mr Sharif-Ali appeared to go against training protocol.
Another officer also claimed that in attempting to handcuff Mr Sharif-Ali he placed him in a headlock, pushed him to the ground and punched him twice in the shoulder. Bullock first told the police watchdog that he was prompted to stop Mr Sharif-Ali because he was “hanging around the park” before admitting that his reasoning “sounded very weak” as the probe revealed no justification for him stopping the man.
