Blackpool bakery behind 'non-binary gingerbread people' explains decision that has been turning heads all over Facebook
A family-run bakery in Blackpool has been turning heads all over the internet after a post on Facebook showed an image of their ‘non-binary gingerbread person’.
His bakery has been selling gingerbread for generations, but when all businesses were required to label products when Natasha's Law was passed in 2019, Paul made the change. He said they received a lot of criticism about them being gingerbread men so made the change as a bit of a joke at first. The death of Natasha Ednan-Laperouse who died after suffering a fatal allergic reaction to a Pret a Manger baguette sparked the change in the law.
After chatting with the man who prints his labels they came up with the idea to call them gingerbread persons. The pair thought it was a funny concept so made the change. "People were saying you can't call them gingerbread men. They kept coming and saying it's not men anymore is it, it's not politically correct. That is why we changed it to person.
