It's the first time since 2019 the switch-on has been held outside
We're definitely starting to move into autumn with cooler and wetter weather and the school holidays about to end.
When are the illuminations switched on? The lights will officially be switched on on Friday, September 1, and they will light up every night until Monday, January 1, 2024. This year, and fresh from helping celebrate Eurovision in Liverpool, singer Sophie Ellis Bextor will have the honour of flicking the switch to light up the Golden Mile.
The event is expected to start at 7pm, with Sophie Ellis Bextor performing a number of her hit tracks. There's also the Nickelodeon Grand Parade, starting around 7.30pm, which will see a procession of favourite TV characters along the seafront. This season will see the debut of three new installations, which will take their place among seasonal favourites. The new installations are Lollies in Love With Life by internationally-renowned artist Dr Chila Kumari Singh Burman MBE and Light Around the World by Native American specialist Bruce Alfred.
The event takes places across Blackpool and features a number of installations making their debut in the UK, including artwork created in Australia, France, the Netherlands and Spain.
