An evacuation of all the buildings took place

An electrical fault caused a blaze at the M1 Watford Gap services in Northamptonshire yesterday . Shortly before 11am, Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to reports of smoke coming from a substation at the site.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "Cordons were put up, the entrance to the services was closed by national highways and fire crews requested the attendance of National Grid"After the electrics were isolated, two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to begin tackling the fire, with crews using thermal imaging cameras to monitor the temperature. A cooling spray was also used to keep temperatures low.

At 12pm yesterday, Roadchef also tweeted: "Watford Gap North and South services are closed temporarily - apologies for the inconvenience."
