'We were expecting 15 people'
Former Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School student, Joseph Oldfield, 25, decided he wanted to create board game events closer to home after going to board games events in Manchester.
He said: “I had met new people and made new friends and I thought the Rossendale community could benefit from having their own board game night. I emailed a few places and the Horse and Bamboo in Waterfoot said they could accommodate us and they have large tables which is ideal.”They meet once a month on a Friday in the theatre’s café bar and also use the theatre for games that need a quieter environment.
The club has its own Facebook page Rossendale Board Games where members are kept informed of club nights and any events. Rob Trethewey from Bolton, was making his first visit to the club. He said: “We play a lot of board games and have about 30 or 40 different ones, My other half Jane and I play games when we are away in the caravan and currently the score is 12-12.Every table was playing a different game, from artist canvases to Reservoir Dogs-type drama, wonders of the world to word and picture games. Waterfoot resident Caroline Eccles has been attending the club since it started three months ago and said it was a great way to meet new people.
