'You can hear in the summer if your window's open, the speed that they can go out is easy 100mph, that bend is a deadly bend.'

Residents on a rat run estate say their lives are being plagued by speeding motorists - some of whom they've clocked regularly exceeding 100mph.

"There's a lot of kids playing on their scooters at the minute, so if a car were to come up or door and you can't see anything around the corner." In agreement, Brian said: "There's children that play on here and the speed that they come down here at is unbelievable. It takes an accident to happen, someone to be dead before they do anything.

Kelly tells us that she has witnessed cars go straight down the road and even in to the houses and she's frightened cars may crash into her garden. "We've had so many police, but they just take too long to get here to be fair - my husband runs after them but he said, I need to stop running after them because they might think it's me.

Blackburn with Darwen Council work in partnership with the Police and other stakeholders through the Lancashire Road Safety Partnership, aiming to reduce casualties on the roads. Following receipt of the petition by the residents in the area, a speed survey was undertaken over seven days from 16th June to 23rd June at Worsten Avenue.
