Linbrooke Services Limited were taken to court after electrician Matthew Mason fell from a ladder onto metal piping while working at Bearsden train station in 2018.
A company ordered to pay over half a million pounds after their employee died while working at Bearsden train station has appealed the 'disproportionate' fine.
The 20-year-old was trying to free speaker cabling that had become stuck when he fell backwards from the ladder and suffered fatal internal injuries. After a 14-day trial at Dumbarton Sheriff Court in May this year, his employer was fined £550,000 and ordered to pay his family £200,000 in compensation following the horrific incident.
Linbrooke Services Ltd appealed their fine at the High Court arguing that Mr Mason had contributed to the accident by using a "shortcut" cabling method and had attached the “Fish” wire to the cable in a "wholly inappropriate manner, presumably because it was quicker".
