Emergency services rushed to an address on Keirhill Avenue in the Westhill area yesterday morning

Police have launched an investigation into the death of a 16-year-old boy on New Year's Day in Aberdeenshire.

The youngster was taken by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, but tragically died a short time later. His death is currently unexplained, however there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances, Aberdeen Live reports. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were made aware of concern for a 16-year-old male at a property on Keirhill Avenue in Westhill at around 10am on Sunday, January 1.

"He was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary but pronounced dead a short time later.
