Travellers, you have been warned.
The airlines British Airways, easyJet and Ryanair have all banned a type of suitcase, so travellers beware because some have already had their flight plans disrupted because they didn’t know about the new restrictions.
Some kinds of ‘smart bags’, or luggage with built-in electronics equipping them to do things like charge devices, be a Wi-Fi hotspot, and connect to Bluetooth, have been banned from these companies’ planes. The rules vary from airline to airline – for instance, BA will not allow any smart bag in either the hold or the cabin if you cannot take the lithium power pack/battery out of it.
If you’re planning to carry your smart bag in the cabin, you must be able to easily remove the power source, but it can remain in the bag while you’re in the air. If you’re planning to put your smart bag in the hold while you’re in the air, the bag’s power source will need to be removed and carried with you into the cabin.On Ryanair, you’ll have to take the battery pack out and keep it out while you’re in the air whether you check the luggage or carry it on with you in the cabin.
