An easy boiler trick could save you £70 on energy bills
Customers of major energy providers including British Gas, EDF, OVO, Octopus, E.On and Shell have been given advice on how to save £70 by a boiler expert. The trick could save £70 bills with people told "you will be just as warm" by a TikTok star who shared the trick.
Sophie Smith, whose account has over 500,00 views, explained to followers: "Turn your boiler's flow temperature down to 50C heating and 55C water. The setting for most boilers is too high. This simple step could save you money and your home will feel just as warm." In response, as reported by Birmingham Live, a viewer told the personal finance journalist: "I have always done this and probably saves a lot more than £70." Another added: "Done this ages ago, save a fortune on gas!" But not everybody was convinced by her trick and tip on the viral social media platform.Another said: “My hot water is fine set at 48 but if I turn the central heating down the house doesn't warm up, can take about three hours to reach temp even at 80.
A fellow viewer wrote: "Turn the boiler off unless heating is needed. Hot water never makes it to the tap when washing hands. I only have it on if I know need hot water/heating in my home." And another chimed in by saying: "You save more by having a properly insulated home." UK households could face higher energy bills next year, after a leading forecaster said electricity market prices will rise in 2024, according to fresh predictions from Cornwall Insight. It comes amid soaring gas and electricity prices triggered by the Ukraine-Russia crisis.
