British tourists stuck in Palma are facing agonising waits after storms on the island and air traffic control problems in the UK caused travel chaos

“It was apparent checking in our bags was a mistake – they contained essentials for making up beds.”“Parents resorted to blowing up inflatables or using beach towels to make temporary beds. My favourite was the blow-up dingy.”

“There were no hotels in the vicinity, those in nearby resorts had cottoned on to the high demand and put up the price. In any case, you couldn’t get there if you did find one, as the queue for taxis was three hours long.”, has meant that flights are unable to depart. A Sky News reporter said a flight from Mallorca had been diverted to France and passengers were stuck on the ground there waiting for more information.

“The storm died down at 5pm yesterday and was ready to board at 12pm today. Since then, we’ve been grounded at the airport and have been told we can’t leave until air traffic control is sorted at Manchester.” “This is due to adverse weather that is currently affecting these destinations. If you are affected by these delays we apologise for the inconvenience that this situation causes.”
