Advice issued as around 300,000 people have been affected by the earthquake
The UK Foreign Office has issued advice to anyone in or travelling to Morocco in the coming days, as the north African nation begins to recover from a deadly earthquake. Rescue teams are still searching through the rubble caused by a devastating quake, which occurred Friday .
With thousands of British tourists thought to be in Morocco, the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office has issued information travellers and holidaymakers need to know. The department says: "On Friday 8 September 2023 an earthquake of magnitude 6.8 struck Morocco near Marrakesh. Despite the tragedy, which reportedly has claimed around 3,000 lives, the FCDO says: "All Moroccan airports are open and flights to and from the UK are operating normally, with some airlines laying on additional seats for travellers wishing to return to the UK earlier than planned."
The FCDO adds: "If you are planning to travel to Morocco imminently we advise you check with your accommodation provider / tour operator to confirm arrangements before departure in case of disruption or damage resulting from the earthquake.
