An inspector said there was a 'disturbing irony' about the danger residents were exposed to
A company was fined over £200,000 after leaving "Grenfell Tower-like" cladding on balconies at a block of city flats.
More combustible material was exposed with no protection from potential sources of ignition, and combustible cladding material was found lying on the scaffolding and on residents' balconies. The HSE described the combustible cladding as "similar to that used on Grenfell Tower when the 2017 disaster occurred".
Mr Reynolds told the court that the company's shoddy working practices "mirrored the failures" shown at its previous London project. He added it was a "systematic failure as a company" and a "failure to comply with its duties". Ms Renton added the company, who were represented in court by director Bledar Pashollari, should be entitled to credit due to its guilty pleas. The company, of Woolwich Road, London pleaded guilty to breaching regulations 11 and 13 of the Construction Regulations 2015.
Judge Boswell added this case could only be seen as a "serious failure" due to the fact the company had "put all its eggs in one basket" when it came to health and safety. However, he said the company, which recorded £1.6m of profit in 2022, remedied the issues within several days and also did not financially gain from the breaches.
