Tough times
For six years the selfless actions of DEPHER founder James Anderson and his team of volunteers have helped the most vulnerable in society as they struggle through the cost of living crisis.
But despite generous donations from the public, including from actor Hugh Grant, the Burnley-based organisation, which delivers food parcels and fits new heating systems, is struggling to keep up with the influx of requests for support. Last month James announced his work had been put on hold after his donated funds dried up.
In February the Burnley plumber revealed he was down to his last £100 which led to a flurry of donations but James has now launched a new fundraiser in a bid to continue helping those in dire need. In the new GoFundMe page he wrote: "Please consider donating; we will ensure that the people who need their independence and surroundings keep them and that they survive to see their families again.
Demand for DEPHER's services has reached new heights and once he was finally able to put his phone down, James revealed requests regularly number in the hundreds a day. Among the most recent recipients of DEPHER's support was a woman whose Christmas dinner consisted of eggs on toast. James provided her with enough shopping to last her for 60 days.
DEPHER's team currently consists of 13 members, all of whom help to delver the vital service to society's most vulnerable. But with a dwindling cash pot he has launched a new GoFundMe page. You can donate to the latest fundraiser HERE.
