The biggest change from the proposals detailed in June last year is abandoning the proposed Burnley and Bacup seat and creating a new Pendle and Clitheroe constituency
Burnley Borough Council's full council meeting has backed the latest plan to redraw the borough’s Parliamentary seat. Earlier this month the Boundary Commission for England produced new proposals to redraw the national General Election map.
Instead of the former gaining Bacup it will instead include the two Pendle District wards of Brierfield East and Clover Hill, and Brierfield West and Reedley. Tuesday's Full Council meeting decided on a split vote to ask the chief executive Mick Cartledge to write to the Boundary Commission supporting the changes to the Burnley constituency boundary.The final consultation on the new map ends on December 5.
“This is a much better proposal than the previous version which would have seen us lose Briercliffe and Lanehead wards to Pendle and take from Rossendale. It is good to see the boundary commission have taken on board community concerns.
