Wout Weghorst, for one reason or another, has never been far from the headlines over the last 12 months.
The Lancashire outfit were bottom of the league at this point, with fans hoping his arrival could guide them to Premier League safety. The result was Burnley’s six-season stay in the Premier League ending as they finished 18th in the table. In their trip to Wales, the striker would be reunited with one of his Burnley teammates in Connor Roberts.Weghorst netted a stoppage time winner against the Dragons in Cardiff, and Roberts was not best pleased, with theBurnley’s January signing simply replied: “This isn’t about Burnley, shut up.”At the beginning of July, Weghorst signed for Turkish side Besiktas on loan until the end of the 2022/23 campaign.
