A state of emergency has been declared in southern California.
There are no recorded deaths in the state but at least one person has died after Storm Hilary hit Mexico.
Hilary is the first such storm to hit the state in 84 years, with record levels of rain bringing severe floods to Los Angeles.has ordered federal aid while school classes and flights in and out of southern California have been cancelled.Devastating mudslides also impacted parts of the region, including roads in Palmdale, Ocotillo and San Diego.
He told the station: ‘I was at a station where they were filling up sandbags and one man remarks, “I live in the desert. I’m not supposed to be doing this”Mr Allen reports there have been evacuation orders for people living in the worst affected areas. But while some are putting sandbags around their homes, others remain unconvinced that the weather will get as bad as what’s being reported.No-one has died yet in California but at least one person is dead from the storm in Mexico
Schoolchildren in the region will also get a rare ‘rain day’ today after thousands of parents were told to keep them at home.
