More than 16,560 people signed an online petition calling for a review into how the DWP delivers PIP.
An online petition that called for a full review into the way the Department for Work and Pensions administers Personal Independence Payment , specifically the role independent assessors play in the application process, is due to be debated by MPs in Parliament after the summer recess, even though it did not achieve the 100,000 signatures threshold before it closed in February.
The petition received 15,561 signatures of support before it closed on February 15, 2023, and will now be debated on Monday, September 4, at 4.30pm in Westminster Hall. Elliot Colburn MP, a member of the Pensions Committee, will open the debate. It continued: “We believe that the Personal Independence Payment application and assessment process is inhumane and degrading. We believe Capita and Atos are not fit for purpose to be contracted as independent assessors, and that this leads to many people being unfairly denied benefits.”
"These include improvements to the customer journey, our communications, the assessment and our decision making. In addition, we have improved our support for our most vulnerable customers. The Government has no plans to carry out a full review of PIP.”
