Research from the British Heart Foundation found the more deprived an area is, the further it is from a 24/7 accessible defibrillator.

Pam Shurmer from Hartlepool lost her son to cardiac arrest in 2021 and said she ‘strongly supports’ the research

In England, people living in the most deprived areas are on average 99 metres further away from their nearest 24/7 defibrillator. Every minute of delay between a cardiac arrest and defibrillation reduces the chance of survival by up to 10%, the charity said. Research found on average people living in more deprived areas faced longer distances from defibrillators than those in the least deprived areas
